PETALING JAYA : Malaysia’s teenage women’s doubles pair Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan-Low Zi Yu pulled off a shock victory at the Taipei Open today, ousting world No 11 home pair Hsu Yin Hui-Lin Jhih Yun in the last-16 match to book a quarter-final berth. Also through to the quarter-finals are their world No 5 compatriots and tournament top seeds Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, who struggled to defeat an unheralded Taiwanese pair in their second round match.
World No 67 duo Noraqilah-Zi Yu put on a splendid performance, recovering from a game down to win the match against their seasoned opponents 20-22, 21-13, 21-11 in 56 minutes at Taiwan’s Taipei Arena.
