Govt Proposes Licensing Regime For E-Commerce Platforms Under New Bill

The move follows the government's announcement during the tabling of Budget 2027 last week, which it plans to introduce the bill at the next parliamentary sitting. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously said the legislation would strengthen accountability among online platforms and sellers, particularly amid complaints from local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) about unfair competition from foreign e-commerce companies.
