Proposed Mara Bill to impose term limits on board members under governance overhaul, says chairman

In a Facebook post yesterday, he said that the move was intended to prevent further cases of abuse of power, governance weaknesses, misappropriation, irregularities, leakages and waste, as well as risks that could cause significant harm to the institution responsible for protecting the interests of Malays and Bumiputeras.

Asyraf Wajdi said a key provision in the Bill, which has been approved in principle by the Cabinet, involves reducing the powers of the Mara chairman to chairing the Board or Council and deciding on policy matters, compared with those currently provided under the Mara Act 1966.
