MELAKA: The Customs Department has foiled an attempt to smuggle 5,069kg of shark fins worth RM8.36 million after an importing company declared the cargo as fish skin.

Melaka Customs director Roslan Yusoff said the shark fins, believed to have been imported from Guyana, South America, were seized on July 2.
He said the smuggling attempt was allegedly masterminded by a company based in Selangor, with efforts underway to locate its director to assist in investigations.
