Tabung Haji RCI: TH overstated 2017 financial position, didn't report RM1.4bil loss
KUALA LUMPUR: Tabung Haji (TH) should have recorded a RM1.4 billion net loss in 2017 instead of the RM3.4 billion profit reported in its financial statements, according to findings by the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the fund.
The RCI said TH's financial position had been significantly weaker than disclosed, with its findings supporting key aspects of an independent financial review by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which found that the institution had been operating with an asset-liability deficit since 2014.
The report said the discrepancy was partly due to weaknesses in accounting practices, including the failure to recognise impairment losses on investments in subsidiaries, associated companies and fixed-income instruments.
