KUALA LUMPUR: The government is considering streamlining national revenue administration through a unified collection system, including the proposed establishment of a Single Tax Agency (STA).

The proposal to consolidate the tax collection functions of the Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) was discussed at an enforcement and tax compliance meeting in June.
Sources familiar with the matter told Berita Harian that the meeting was attended by representatives from key Finance Ministry agencies, including the Treasury, Customs Department and IRB, as well as the World Bank.
