Hotspots rise in Kalimantan as air quality worsens in 10 areas
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of hotspots in Kalimantan rose by 254 to 520 today, and those in Sumatra increased by 12 to 176, according to the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC).
Department of Environment (DOE) deputy director-general (Development) Azuri Azizah Saedon said clusters of hotspots in West Kalimantan are generating moderate-to-dense transboundary haze drifting north towards western Sarawak.
According to her, the situation has affected air quality in several parts of the country, with unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings recorded in 10 areas across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Kedah and Sarawak as of 7pm today.
