JOHOR BARU: More than RM100 million has been spent by the city council on drainage and flood mitigation works since 2023, but existing infrastructure was still unable to fully cope with today's intense rainfall coinciding with a high tide.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said rainfall intensity reached 60mm an hour, three times the reference rate of 20mm an hour, while the high tide reached 3.5 metres.
He said the combination placed significant pressure on the city's drainage and flood mitigation systems.
