NST Leader: Migrants and refugees causing concern

The World Bank and International Organisation for Migration estimates that for a populace of between 1.2 million and 3.5 million, for every 10 legal migrants, there will be seven to 10 undocumented ones.

Think tanks say the numbers may be even larger: 3.8 million and 5.5 million in legal and illegal workers, respectively. Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says Malaysia hosts 215,600 refugees and asylum seekers up to February and, excluding the 21,776 from 50 countries, including Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria, Sri Lanka, Palestine and Iraq, the rest are mostly from Myanmar.
