KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Council (NSC) has rejected claims that it had not discussed track icon Azizulhasni Awang's future, saying it was "deeply surprised" by Malaysian cycling technical director John Beasley's recent statement on the matter.
NSC said it had held several meetings with the 38-year-old Azizulhasni, including a key meeting on Aug 13 where the cyclist outlined what he needed to continue his pursuit of a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Beasley said on Thursday that Azizulhasni would skip the pre-Asian Games training camp in Brisbane and the World Championships in Shanghai if discussions on his future did not take place within the next couple of days, with the five-time Olympian then expected to announce his retirement.
