MCMC steps up technical standards to improve reliability of essential services
Commission brings together regulators, industry players and experts to strengthen coordination across communications, energy, water and infrastructure sectors
KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is stepping up efforts to strengthen technical standards governing essential services, including communications, electricity and water, to improve their safety, reliability and efficiency. In a statement, the MCMC said the move comes as these services become increasingly reliant on digital technologies and interconnected systems, where disruptions in one network could have knock-on effects on other services and people's daily lives. To address these challenges, MCMC organised the Seminar on Enabling Intelligent and Resilient Utilities through Standards at its Centre of Excellence here today, in conjunction with World Standards Day 2026. The seminar also highlighted MCMC's Framework for Technical Standards Governance, which aims to improve the planning, coordination and development of technical standards in the communications and multimedia sector in line with technological advancements and industry requirements. Representatives from regulatory agencies, standards development organisations, industry players, local authorities and academia attended the seminar to discuss ways to better coordinate technical standards across the communications, energy, water and infrastructure development sectors. MCMC said it would continue working with relevant agencies and industry stakeholders to improve interoperability between technologies and systems, supporting safer and more reliable essential services for the public. - October 14, 2026 The post MCMC steps up technical standards to improve reliability of essential services appeared first on Scoop .
