Selangor Sultan: Monarchy remains a pillar of stability
Sultan Sharafuddin says these values remained relevant because societies benefited from institutions that encouraged moderation, unity and respect for the rule of law
KUALA LUMPUR - Although society has evolved, the fundamental role of a constitutional monarch remains unchanged, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, said. His Royal Highness said the Ruler had a responsibility to uphold the Constitution, preserve continuity and serve as a symbol of unity above political differences. “The monarchy provides stability during times of change and reminds us that enduring institutions continue to play an important role in safeguarding national harmony,” he said in a special interview in conjunction with his 25 years on the Selangor throne. Sultan Sharafuddin said the Constitution provided clear guidance on his responsibilities. “My responsibility is to serve all the people of Selangor without favour or prejudice,” he said. His Royal Highness noted that respect for constitutional principles, impartiality and fairness enabled the monarchy to remain a trusted institution for all citizens, regardless of their background or political beliefs. The monarchy, he said, represented continuity, stability, service and responsibility. “It reminds us that leadership carries obligations rather than privileges,” he said. Sultan Sharafuddin said these values remained relevant because societies benefited from institutions that encouraged moderation, unity and respect for the rule of law. - October 24, 2026 The post Selangor Sultan: Monarchy remains a pillar of stability appeared first on Scoop .
