Pakatan’s Melaka campaign to focus on policies, youth and respecting differences
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail wants coalition’s candidates to draw red line on hate and race politics when campaigning
KUALA LUMPUR — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has set “red lines” on topics it will reject in campaigning for the 16th Melaka state election. Politics of hate, incitement and racialising narratives will be rejected, said PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today after the nomination of candidates. After nominations today, 79 candidates will contest for the state legislative assembly’s 28 seats. Saifuddin Nasution, who is also the Home Minister, said PH will centre its campaign on the theme 'Melaka Rumah Kita' (Melaka is our home), focusing on competing ideas, service records and the welfare of the people. He said election campaigns should not be fought by inciting hostility, but be based on which party is most trusted to be able to defend the fate of the community. "Our red line is to completely reject the politics of hatred, the politics of incitement and politics that is based on the idea that to defend our race, we must oppress other races, (that) for our race to succeed, other races have no place... we completely reject that. "We will focus on a peaceful campaign, because we are convinced that an election campaign is not measured by the victory of which party is the loudest, but who is actually the most trusted and credible," Saifuddin Nasution said at a press conference at the PH election operations room in Melaka today. PH will focus on three main messages, that is, respecting differences of opinion; highlight policy offers and the ability to solve problems; and a manifesto that focuses on job opportunities, the cost of living and the future of the youth. Saifuddin Nasution also urged supporters not to speculate on the political alignment after the election, but to focus on canvassing for votes, including from voters living outside the state. “Out-of-constituency voters are the focus of our attention to be contacted to ensure they return to vote,” he said Melaka will go to the polls on November 14, with early voting on November 10. Meanwhile, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said all PH candidates and party machinery have been reminded to adopt a healthy approach to campaigning. The DAP Wanita chief said despite holding different views on issues, the PH campaign must uphold a common identity as Malaysians. “We know that during elections, criticism and sometimes even a little disagreement are inevitable. "But most importantly, we must understand that before becoming candidates, we are all Malaysians. So, let us ensure that our campaigns are healthy and constructive,” Bernama reports Teo saying at the nomination centre in Bandar Hilir. PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, who was at the nomination centre in Machap Jaya, said the PH campaign would showcase the Madani government’s achievements in the last four years of federal rule. - October 31, 2026 The post Pakatan’s Melaka campaign to focus on policies, youth and respecting differences appeared first on Scoop .
