Kesuma ready to help Utusan Malaysia, Kosmo! staff affected by restructuring: Ramanan
Human Resources Minister says Socso offers financial assistance for up to six months, while MyFutureJobs has nearly 400,000 vacancies
KUALA LUMPUR – The Human Resources Ministry (Kesuma) is prepared to assist Media Mulia Sdn Bhd employees affected by the company's restructuring and operational rationalisation exercise involving Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!, particularly those who lose their jobs. Its minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said the ministry remained committed to safeguarding workers' welfare, especially those who had been retrenched or were struggling to secure an income, Bernama reported. He said the Social Security Organisation (Socso) provides financial assistance to eligible workers who lose their jobs, with payments available for up to six months at progressively reduced rates to give them time to find new employment. “Through Socso, workers who lose their jobs can receive financial assistance for up to six months, with payments gradually reduced, allowing them to seek new employment opportunities. “In any case, KESUMA is always concerned, particularly when someone loses their job or faces hardship. This is an initiative already available under Socso,” he told reporters after visiting Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Jasin Lalang in Ayer Merbau here today. Ramanan added that Socso's MyFutureJobs portal currently listed nearly 400,000 job vacancies that could be accessed by Malaysians seeking employment. He also said the Communications Ministry was working towards providing assistance and finding a solution to the matter. “The Communications Ministry is also in the process of providing assistance and finding a way to resolve the matter,” he said. On Nov 2, Media Mulia Sdn Bhd director and chief financial officer Abd Wahid Idris said the company was conducting a strategic assessment of its business model, operational structure and future direction, which included implementing a paid leave programme involving nearly 100 employees. He said the rationalisation exercise was necessary to ensure the company's business continuity and sustainability amid changes in the media landscape, which has increasingly shifted towards digital platforms. - November 5, 2026 The post Kesuma ready to help Utusan Malaysia, Kosmo! staff affected by restructuring: Ramanan appeared first on Scoop .
