Syed Mahadi Syed Hassan says negotiations are at final stages, with MoUs expected to be signed soon as FAM seeks to strengthen its commercial prospects

From the original report

KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is closing in on sponsorship agreements with two major local companies, in a potential boost to the cash-strapped national football governing body’s commercial prospects. FAM Media and Marketing Committee chairman Datuk Syed Mahadi Syed Hassan said negotiations with both companies had reached the final stages, with memorandums of understanding (MoUs) expected to be signed in the near future. Although he declined to disclose the identities of the prospective sponsors, Syed Mahadi said both companies had committed to working with FAM, raising hopes of fresh corporate backing for the association. “God willing, we will secure new sponsors in the near future. We have already identified the companies, and they have given us their commitment to come on board. We are now working towards signing the MoUs with them. “So far, we have identified two major companies, and discussions have reached the stage where we are preparing to formalise the agreements. For now, I cannot reveal the identities of the sponsors that will be coming on board,” he told Scoop when contacted. Scoop understands from sources familiar with the matter that MR D.I.Y. and YTL Corporation Bhd are among the companies being considered for sponsorship, although their involvement has yet to be officially confirmed by FAM or either company. Scoop is seeking confirmation from both companies and further clarification from FAM on the proposed sponsorship arrangements. The potential partnerships come as FAM seeks to strengthen its commercial footing and rebuild confidence in Malaysian football following a period of scrutiny over the national governing body's administration and governance. Separately, Syed Mahadi stressed that the media would remain a crucial strategic partner in FAM’s efforts to restore public confidence, strengthen the image of Malaysian football and improve the sport’s standing. He said media engagement should go beyond the conventional reporting of news, with effective communication playing a key role in shaping public perceptions and influencing the level of support for the national game. “The media can shape perceptions, influence public opinion and even change the direction of support. Its influence should not be underestimated, particularly in football, where public confidence and support are essential. “In our field, the media is not merely there to report the news. It is a strategic partner that can work with us to rebuild confidence, strengthen our image and elevate the standing of Malaysian football,” he said. Syed Mahadi also called for closer coordination between FAM’s media, marketing, digital communications and commercial operations, saying the different departments needed to work towards common objectives rather than function independently. He said a more integrated approach would help FAM communicate more effectively with supporters, strengthen its public image and maximise commercial opportunities. “Media, marketing, digital communications and commercial activities cannot operate in isolation. They must complement one another, with everyone working as a team towards the same goals. “When these areas are properly aligned, we can deliver a more consistent message, build stronger relationships with supporters and partners, and create better opportunities to grow the commercial value of Malaysian football,” he said. - October 20, 2026 The post FAM closes in on two major sponsors, MR D.I.Y. and YTL linked to potential deals appeared first on Scoop .
