Nancy calls for collective Asean action to end violence against children
PUTRAJAYA: Asean must adopt a collective approach to protect children from violence, with governments, communities, families and children themselves playing a role in addressing the issue.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said protecting children was not merely a child protection issue, but a shared responsibility, as more than 200 million children below the age of 18 make up about 30 per cent of the region's population.
"Violence against children is not merely a child protection issue, but it is a shared responsibility requiring collective action by governments, communities, families and children themselves," she said while opening the 9th Asean Children's Forum today.
